Smíchov City wins prestigious awards in the Building of the Year 2024 and Best of Realty competitions

We are pleased to announce that the first residential phase of the Smíchov City project has been awarded the title of Building of the Year 2024 and has also won the main prize in the Best of Realty competition in the Large-Scale Residential Projects category.

“Smíchov City is the largest urban development in central Prague since the creation of Vinohrady. But for me and for the entire Sekyra Group, it’s more than just work – it’s a labour of love for everyone involved in the project. This success is proof of the determination of our entire team, as a new district is coming into being that will be an alternative to the historic centre of the metropolis and a symbol of Prague in the 21st century,” said Dr Luděk Sekyra on receiving the award.

The Smíchov City project introduces a modern living concept that combines architectural quality and thoughtful urban development. More than 1,000 premium apartments will be built here in several phases, with each block designed by a different architect. Hence, Smíchov City is not just a new urban district but a unique showcase of contemporary Czech and European architecture.

The dominant feature of the next phase of the project, called Smíchov City South, will be the Česká spořitelna campus. This section will also include administrative buildings, a hotel, a school and other infrastructure. A key element of the urban concept is the nearly kilometre-long Madeleine Albright pedestrian boulevard that will connect the individual parts of the new district. The streets in Smíchov City are named after important Czech women, paying tribute to their legacy.

The total investment in the project amounts to CZK 50 billion, of which CZK 15 billion will come from public investment, including the modernisation of the railway station and the construction of a large-capacity car park.

“This award is a wonderful recognition of our efforts so far, and motivation to continue working on this new district. I would like to thank all our partners, architects and engineers who have been involved in the project,” Luděk Sekyra added.
